Chips, Education and IT Services Dominate Richardsons 2019 Economic Development Results February 11, 2020 Report by John Jacobs, Executive Vice President In 2019, 31 expansion and relocation projects yielded Richardson 701,585 square feet of office leases, 383,849 square feet of flex leases, and a new 870,000 square foot semiconductor. All together, those projects are expected to result in 3,108 new Richardson jobs and 634 retained Richardson jobs.The jewel of course was the TI fab, being referred to as R-Fab II for which the construction and equipment costs could total $3 billion. TI has already begun construction of a structured parking garage which will be necessitated by the nearly 500 jobs the new fab will bring. As with R-Fab I, TI will attempt to time the completion of R-Fab II to coincide with the market demand for its production capacity.On the education front, West Coast University (WCU), a premier private educational institution for the nursing profession, purchased from KDC the 136,000 square foot former CitiCorp/Fossil building at 2323 N. Central Expy. WCU will be moving its Dallas campus from its current Stemmons Fwy. location in Dallas this fall. A number of big Dallas area hospitals are big fans of WCU, which supplies about 20% of all the nurses in the state of California where its headquarters are located. The new campus will be able to accommodate about 800 nursing students.In the IT services arena, DXC Technology, which had its roots in Ross Perot’s EDS before it was acquired by Hewlett-Packard then spun out as a separate company several years ago, has made its new home in Richardson, becoming the largest tenant at the new 3400 N.
