Richardson Chamber of Commerce Supports 2010 City Bond Program

The Richardson Chamber of Commerce has endorsed the city of Richardson bond program to be voted on May 8th. Residents will vote on roughly 30 upgrades or new projects which will be divided into four propositions: streets and drainage, parks, public buildings and neighborhood vitality. The total bond package is $66 million.

City officials believe now is the right time for a bond election because prices tend to be lower during a slow economy. Since construction costs are down, the city expects to get lower bids on construction projects. Interest rates are also low right now, which means the city can borrow more money at a lower cost, especially given Richardson's AAA bond rating. The Richard Chamber board of directors passed a resolution supporting the bond election at its last board meeting.
