Richardson Chamber of Commerce and the City of Richardson Partner with U.S. Census Bureau

The City of Richardson and the Chamber have formed a partnership with the Census Bureau to assist in getting every resident of Richardson counted.  Why is it important to our community?  The total number of residents affects funding in the community and helps inform decision makers how it has changed.  Approximately $300 billion in federal funding is distributed to communities each year.

Once every ten years, the U.S. Constitution mandates a headcount of every person living in the United States.  This includes people of all ages, races, ethnic groups, citizens and non-citizens.  The first census was taken in 1790 and has been carried out every ten years since then.  The U.S. Census Bureau must submit state population totals to the President of the United States by Dec. 31, 2010.
