December 2009 This issue home | Past issues | Chamber home LR Class XXV Social Services Present A Brighter Tomorrow Leadership Richardson Class XXV, "The Sterling Class", was presented by the Social Services Committee, which included Chelsea Schmidt, Bill Flori, Chip Izard, Lisa Marshall, William Gordon and their ROC Rick Helfers, shown here. William Gordon tells us about his experience: The Social Services session taught us that there is a whole network of people ready to help in the Richardson-community, regardless of the need. We also discovered just how complicated it can be to provide such services, from regulatory requirements to financial and other more traditional business concerns. Having personally contacted approximately 70 service agencies, we discovered that in addition to the need for more funding, the most pressing concerns of these agencies include a need for more effective marketing and publicity, finding volunteers to bridge gaps in both service delivery and in operations, and a need for more office space. The mission statement we established is to “provide greater awareness for the social service organizations which serve the Richardson community, and encourage involvement.” It is our intention to continue to bring this statement to life. Over the next several months, we will continue to meet as a committee and explore ways in which we can help such agencies better publicize and market their services to the greater Richardson community. We wish to thank the Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Richardson for this fabulous opportunity to learn more about our City, its needs, and the many agencies that community leaders have established to provide services to mitigate such needs. It has been a wonderful experience. Thank you! William Gordon Action News is a monthly publication of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce Communications Department.
