September 2009 This issue home | Past issues | Chamber home Women In Leadership Plans Big Finish for 2009 The Women In Leadership Program will close 2009 with exciting luncheons and great networking events that will provide women in business the opportunity to improve, learn and network. Planned around the this year’s WIL theme of “Building a Better You,” the events will range from presentations on financial planning to breast cancer awareness to the opportunity to expand business contacts through networking. “The committee has put a lot of thought and effort to planning a series of events that will put the finishing touches on what has been a very successful year for WIL. It’s going to be a phenomenal fall for WIL,” said Mary Bedosky, a tri-chair for the WIL Committee and President of ViewPoint Bank in Richardson. Over 95 people heard a five person panel discussion on planning a woman's financial journey at the third quarterly luncheon of the year held on September 9. "Life Shouldn't Be Like a Box of Chocolates: How To Prepare for Your Financial Journey” used the real life experiences and knowledge gained from the experiences of the panelists to provide valuable information on how women can be better prepared for life's journey. Women form five stages of the life's journey participated in the panel: young professional, career professional, parenting, pre-retirement and retirement. The final quarterly WIL luncheon of the year on December 2 is billed as the program that will “Complete the Package.” Sherry Dean, Dean of Humanities at Richland College, will discuss how prepare for the challenges of life by continuing to grow and really never completing the package. Annie Clark of Get Noticed! will provide fashions for women who are looking to improve or accessorize their professional wardrobe. WIL will be collecting interview clothes and business suits for Attitudes and Attire, a Dallas based a non-profit agency dedicated to promoting personal growth for women seeking self-sufficiency. All WIL luncheons are held at the Richardson Woman’s Club and begin at 11:30 a.m. Three Nothing But Networking Events are planned this fall. The first Nothing But Networking event comes on September 24 at II Creeks Plaza, 2701 Custer Parkway, in Richardson and will be hosted by Tannery Wealth Management and the businesses in the center. Come travel through II Creeks Plaza for a night of networking with business owners, socializing with friends and shopping till you drop from 5 -7 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served. Drawings for door prizes will take place towards the end of the evening. A very special Nothing But Networking event is planned for October 29 at Richardson Methodist Cancer Center, 401 W. Campbell Road in Richardson. The center staff will promote breast cancer awareness and early detection with a brief program and introduction of the staff. Information on the center’s services and physicians, techniques for early detection and door prize drawings will highlight the event. All participants to the event are asked to wear pink in support of breast cancer victims. Then, the Nothing But Networking calendar concludes with the annual Holiday Hop and Shop on December 2 at a local shopping center. The inaugural Hop and Shop last year at Campbell Road Village was a huge success. Look for more information on the location of this year’s Hop and Shop in the coming weeks. The Women In Leadership program was established in 2006 to encourage, inspire and develop women as they grow into leaders in business and our community.
