September 2009 This issue home | Past issues | Chamber home Chamber Salutes First Responders at Signature Luncheon A very special event took place on Thursday, September 10th at the Richardson Chamber of Commerce Signature Luncheon. Those who put their lives on the line every day to keep the public safe were honored at the second annual “Salute to First Responders” Luncheon. The luncheon, sponsored by Ron Patterson Insurance and Atmos Energy, was held at the Doubletree Dallas/Richardson Hotel (formerly the Radisson) and drew a wonderful crowd of close to 120 supporters and first responders. Proclamations were presented by Texas House of Representative Carol Kent, Angie Chen Button and Jerry Madden to the Richardson Police and Fire Departments, UTD Police Departmnet, and Richland College Police Departmnet. One of North Texas’ leading educators on training medical personnel in the field, Dr. Paul Pepe, Professor of Emergency Medicine, UT Southwestern Medical Center, was the keynote speaker and his remarks focused on how responding to and treating victims of catastrophic events has changed since the events of 9/11. Dr. Pepe also shared some heart-warming stories of his work in areas devastated by Hurricane’s Katrina and Ike. The goal of the Signature Luncheon Steering Committee was to provide tickets to the luncheon for every police officer and firefighter at no cost. Businesses and individuals were asked to sponsor a first responder for the luncheon when they purchased their own tickets. We are pleased to announce that over 40 first responders were able to attend and enjoy the lunch and presentation at no cost to them or to the city of Richardson. “This was the Chamber’s second luncheon to honor police officers and firefighters. In 2008, the luncheon focused mostly on law enforcement so this year the firefighters and EMTs had the spotlight, although we honored all first responders,” said Casey Williams, the chairman of this luncheon and a tri-chair of the Signature Luncheon Committee.Action News is a monthly publication of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce Communications Department.
