Powerful New Teachers Luncheon
The 51st annual New Teachers Luncheon was held on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Renaissance Hotel Dallas – Richardson. This special luncheon, planned by the Chamber’s Education Committee, was a tremendous success! Thanks to Doctorate Degree Sponsor Texans Credit Union and the 20 other sponsors, we were able to host 325 new teachers to the Richardson Independent School District.
Since 1958, our area businesses, organizations and individuals have expressed their strong interest in maintaining quality education for the students, faculty and staff of RISD by supporting the annual New Teachers Luncheon. Chamber businesses donated over 200 tote bag items and door prizes to truly show the community's support for the school district and its newest teachers.
Author and Gen Y expert, Nancy Barry gave an impassioned and inspirational keynote speech on "The Power of You," and greatly illustrated what teachers mean to the community and to their students. Barry is not only a product of the RISD, but both of her children have graduated from the district as well. Her message to the new teachers was powerful and carried a personal message from someone very familiar with the district.
