Shopping Center of the Month – Camelot Shopping Center

Located on W. Arapaho at Hampshire Drive, Camelot Center is owned by Norman Hoppenstein, principal of Hoppenstein Realty, a Dallas real estate company.  The center has approximately
76, 000 square feet and recently added new metal roofing and facades to the three buildings that make up the center. 

Camelot has four restaurants:

  • Holy Frijolies is a Tex-Mex restaurant founded by owner Winona Fields that offers both lunch and dinner menus in addition to their catering services
  • D&A Pizza, has, in addition to great pizza, sub sandwiches and salads
  • Salvadorian Cuisine, offers specialties from this unique Central American country (closed on Wednesdays)
  • Esther’s Steakhouse/Falafel’s is a unique restaurant offering traditional Israeli and Mediterranean food, completely Kosher (the best falafel in town) and catering services.
  • Radford Cakery specializes in unique wedding and special occasion cakes that are as delicious as they are beautiful.  They offer customers a wide variety of cake flavors, fillings and frostings – and create classic standards to custom designs for both bride, groom and special occasion cakes.

 

Camelot has several tenants in the arts: dance and painting:

  • New World Dance Center is the home of the New World Ballet Company, now in its 11th year. New World Ballet has attracted and hosted artists, students and patrons from around the globe. In the spirit of artistic exchange, New World Ballet has participated with numerous local, regional and national dance companies to promote the highest quality dance through education, performance, and community service.
  • The Bonny Studio -offers classes and workshops in oil painting and pastels. Bonny Leibowitz’s classes explore creativity and develop technique from beginning to advance levels in a positive and supportive forward-thinking environment, enriching lives and developing associations and friendships with other students/artists in our community.
  • Encaustic CenterOwners Deanna Wood and Bonny Leibowitz  recently opened a new studio, adjacent to The Bonny Studio, with a focus on the beautiful art of painting with wax in all its various forms. They are offering beginner and intermediate workshops, studio workdays, special events and demonstrations of this unique art form.

Service tenants at Camelot include:

  • Auto One Sales and Service for all your auto glass and AC repairs
  • A-1 Imaging offers sales and service for Sharp Digital Copying Systems and is a certified reseller.
  • Children’s Clinic of Richardson provides quality, affordable healthcare to low income children from birth to 18 years. CCR was recently recognized as one of five recipients of Eileen Fisher’s business grants for 2008. This year's recipients each received a $10,000 grant and were recognized in New York City on March 23-24, 2009 during a two day conference. The program recognizes women-owned businesses that combine the principles of social consciousness and sustainability to create new businesses or invigorate existing ones with a solid business plan and strategy for long term growth.
  • Sports Distributors – Established almost 50 years ago, Sports Distributors provides sports equipment and uniforms for many of the north Texas area youth sports programs.

Entertainment venues at Camelot include:

The Billard Den  “ Not just another pool hall, ” Billiard Den features billiards, darts, free wi-fi, and offers pub-style fare, sandwiches, salads, burgers. They have a private party room for up to 25 people, happy hour is all day, every day, and free pool on 8’ tables on Sundays.

Dorsey’s Bridge Studio – Owner Dorsey Shaw and her staff offer bridge classes and lessons from beginner to advanced. If you enjoy playing bridge, check the web site for club activities.

Arapaho Bingo Center – A Non-smoking hall with bingo activities at 3:45pm and 5:00pm every day. Full service snack bar is available and children age 6 and up are allowed, but they must play bingo.

Peace Pipe Hookah Lounge is Camelot’s newest tenant.

With a growing group of artistic tenants and the recent remodel, it’s good to see improvements being made at this center.
