March 2009 This issue home | Past issues | Chamber home Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? By: Dr. Ray Nannis, Owner, Nannis Chiropractic Family Health Center Every day I encounter people that have been suffering or dealing with health challenges for years sometimes even decades. Many of these people have decided that it is necessary for them to just learn to live with whatever is ailing them. As a practicing chiropractor I have found that most of life's health challenges can be avoided, and you can live to your optimum potential if we simply follow a few basic rules. The challenge is that when you were born you did not come with an owner's manual. Your car, TV and even ipod have an owner's manual, but the most complex entities on our planet, the human body, does not have one. Your body has the inborn potential inborn to thrive and succeed in life. You are designed to be happy, healthy, and successful. We must provide eight essentials to make this potential become a reality. The Eight Essentials of health include Oxygen, Water, Nutrition, A healthy functioning Nervous System, Exercise, Rest, Sunlight, and positive thoughts. When placed together the first letter spells out O.W.N.N.E.R.S. so I submit this as the owners manual for the human body. Today I would like to focus on the most important of the essentials and in my next article we will discuss the others. A healthy functioning nervous system may be the cornerstone to optimal health. The problem is people can receive damage from stress and their environment that causes their nervous system to lose the ability to run every other tissue, organ, and system in the body. This damage is called a subluxation. A subluxation is a pinched nerve. We get Subluxations from daily activities. Any physical, chemical, or emotional stress that has occurred in your life can lead to a problem. This will create interference between the brain and the body. Subluxations can be caused as early as the birth process, while we are learning to walk, car accidents, or just sitting at our desks for hours at a time. When a subluxation is present any aspect of the body could be damaged, but there are not always symptoms. Problems can be present for years, much like tooth decay, with out causing an effect or symptom.
