Rightsizing a Family Business in Perilous Times

In difficult economic times, family business owners may find themselves facing revenue declines of twenty- to fifty-percent, or worse yet, they may be watching profits turn into losses. Solving this business problem is challenging for a business, but even more so for families who own and actively manage their businesses.

Special conditions surrounding small, family-owned businesses make this issue more complex than for their professionally-managed counterparts in larger companies. Most problems stem from the fact that family business owners are accountable to themselves, typically lacking good independent input that professional managers have in a larger company with shareholders, a board of directors, and vice presidents.

Get Involved with Teacher Appreciation Week – March 23

The Richardson Independent School District is nationally recognized as being one of the top districts in the area.  This is largely due to the strength and dedication of our teachers who work tirelessly to mold the minds of our community’s youth.  For that, they deserve our respect and appreciation.

It is with this in mind that the Richardson Chamber of Commerce’s Education Committee started Teacher Appreciation Week last year.  This year Teacher Appreciation Week will be the week of March 23 and the Chamber is asking area businesses to “adopt” one or more of the local schools and personally deliver chips and dips to that school’s faculty and staff as a sign of our appreciation to them.
