September 2008 This issue home | Past issues | Chamber home Shopping Center of the Month: II Creeks Plaza
Located at 2701 Custer Parkway at Lookout Drive, II Creeks Plaza is a grand reminder of what can happen when citizens work together to bring about real change and vitality to their neighborhood. A small group of individuals led by Greg Cooney and Dan Lee, both residents of Canyon Creek, came together with financial resources and a commitment to improve their neighborhood and the result was the creation of II Creeks, a luxury residential enclave with retail, restaurants, services and entertainment in the heart of one of Richardson’s finest neighborhoods, Canyon Creek. Together the II Creeks team began the long and sometimes challenging acquisition of properties to create the vision for II Creeks. That effort took almost 2 years. Then the demolition and building renovations of the old Canyon Creek Shopping Center began, first with the eastern portion of the building, followed by the southern building extension occupied by the Richardson Theatre Center, Richardson’s own local live theater. Next to the theater is Promethean Studios, one of the premier locations for music learning, offering a wide of range of instrument and vocal instructions for all ages from beginners to professionals. See www.dallasmusiclessons.com. AA Poly Bag, which has been providing customized and volume poly bags for a variety of commercial customers for over 20 years, moved into their new space and soon other tenants began to arrive. The Spa at II Creeks, the first real luxury spa in the city, opened to great reviews and has now expanded to offer both hair and nail services for their clients. Beyond the Door, a unique home décor boutique with interior design services opened and has also expanded. Richard Dietrichson, a custom home builder added his business location, The Dietrichson Company and Tannery & Company owners Michael and Tina Tannery and their team of wealth management advisors, also made II Creeks Plaza their business home. See www.tannerywealth.com Michael Mark’s Trattoria (tra-tor-re′-a) opened early 2007, offering Italian cuisine in a traditional, yet casual setting with a delightful walled patio area highlighted by a large stone oven. Open for both lunch and dinner, MMT quickly became a Canyon Creek gathering place, exactly what the center owners had in mind. MMT was followed by Wildflour, a Texas Café which offers a daily lunch Monday through Saturday and their very special catering and event services. Sue Walker, RCC VP approached owner Gayle Wood about moving her culinary talents over to II Creeks Plaza to give the business greater exposure and a more accommodating setting than the local office building where they were previously located. The timing was good as Gayle was already thinking of moving. See her web site www.wildflourtexas.com. Gayle’s special dishes are quite popular and now II Creeks Plaza customers enjoy both dining options. Greg Cooney worked well over a year to convince Crull Fitness Center, a highly-regarded Dallas sports training center, to open a 2nd location. The new facility opened at II Creeks Plaza in 2007, with a 10,000 SF state-of-the-art training center. Coach Crull, a graduate of JJ Pearce HS and UNT, is one of the preeminent sports trainers in the DFW area. For over 20 years he has designed and implemented highly effective training programs for athletes at all levels. Due to a special arrangement with Canyon Creek Country Club, club members can have their monthly fitness membership billed with their CCCC membership, a nice convenience for local residents. See www.crullfitness.com In addition to the retail and service businesses, II Creeks is also an upscale, gated community of luxury patio homes and townhomes by Savannah Homes. You’ll want to see II Creeks Villas & Townhomes. These high quality executive homes in this unique neighborhood, close to work, schools, and UT Dallas, have all the features of luxury living without the major upkeep of a large yard. II Creeks is truly a model of what neighborhood redevelopment is all about and another Richardson success.
