August 2008 This issue home | Past issues | Chamber home Tektronix Awards $1,000 to UT Dallas Design Team Richardson based Tektronix Communications recently awarded $1,000 to the winning student team in the spring 2008 UT Dallas computer science senior design project. Tektronix’s senior manager Wei Dong, in cooperation with UT Dallas professor Eric Wong, challenged teams of senior computer science majors to create a staff planning tool for a technology company like Tektronix. The tool was designed to manage the opening of positions, track the life cycle of positions, and generate reports for management reviews. The senior design project challenges students to demonstrate their mastery of engineering and computer science technical knowledge through crafting a solution to a significant real world design problem. Design problems provided by companies like Tektronix simulate real life professional engineering environments and help produce work ready graduates.
