August 2008 This issue home | Past issues | Chamber home Chamber will Salute First Responders at 9/11 Luncheon First Responders – the firefighters and police officers who are the first to be on the scene when tragedy strikes – will be honored for their service during a special Signature Luncheon commemorating the lives lost in the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers in New York City and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Steve Tidwell, the Deputy Executive Director of the FBI in Washington, D.C. will keynote this special event luncheon on September 11, the 7th anniversary of the attacks, at the First United Methodist Church Richardson. He will be joined by Bob Casey of the Dallas FBI Office, Richardson Police Chief Larry Zacharias, and Richardson Fire Chief Alan Palomba. The colors will be presented by the combined Police and Firefighters Color Guard and Bagpipe Corps. The goal of the Signature Luncheon Steering Committee is to provide tickets to the luncheon for every police officer and firefighter at no cost. Sponsors are asked to purchase police officer and firefighter tickets when they purchase their own tickets. Tickets to the luncheon are $35 for members of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce and police and firefighters. Tickets for non-members are $40. Table sponsorships, which include tickets for police and firefighters, are also available. Contact Paul Bendel for more information. The luncheon will serve as a community-wide observance of 9/11 and the public is invited to attend. Steve Tidwell entered on duty with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in June 1983. Prior to entering the FBI, he served as a police officer with the Richardson, Texas, Police Department for eight years, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He served in the Dallas, Mobile and Baltimore Field Offices, investigating narcotics, violent crime and gang matters. He served as a team member on the Mobile and Baltimore Field Office’s SWAT teams. In Baltimore, he was an Assistant Team Leader and also served as the SWAT Coordinator. On December 19, 2007, Director Mueller announced Mr. Tidwell’s appointment as Executive Assistant Director for the Bureau’s Criminal, Cyber, Response and Services Branch.
