July 2008 This issue home | Past issues | Chamber home RISD Back to School Fair We’re debuting a new section here at the RCC Action Newsletter; Partners in Education. In our continued efforts to raise awareness of educational issues, this monthly column will illustrate possible partnerships between the Richardson Independent School District and local business and community leaders. Did you know that 49% of RISD’s student population is considered economically disadvantaged? With more than 34,000 students at 55 schools, this means that approximately 17,000 students qualify for financial assistance. These students will likely return to school without the proper supplies and required health exams. With little chance to get ahead and succeed these students need our help. On Saturday, August 16 is going to hold a Back to School Rally at The First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park in Richardson. They hope to provide school supplies, health care information, immunizations and haircuts to over 7,000 students in need. Local business leaders, like yourself, can help by donating school supplies, money or simply your valuable time and efforts to this worthy cause. Please see the supply list for school supply needs and contact Celina Cardenas for more information on the Back to School Rally. Students that are better prepared to succeed will only improve our community and provide a strong future workforce that will usher new levels of prosperity into Richardson’s future.
