July 2008 This issue home | Past issues | Chamber home Shopping Center of the Month Campbell Road Village at 635 W. Campbell Road is now 100% leased, according to leasing director, Courtney Underwood. If the name Underwood sounds familiar, it should. Courtney is the 3rd generation of Underwoods to be involved in retail development in Richardson. It all began with her grandfather, George Underwood, who built the original Richardson Heights Shopping Center back in the 1950’s. It was, at the time, only the second shopping center to be built in the Dallas area. He built Campbell Road Village in the 1960’s (it was his 7th center) later added the front building in 1979. Courtney’s mother Nancy Underwood, owner and CEO of Underwood Financial, Ltd., continued the family business and made improvements to their properties through the years. Earlier this decade, with a gas station on the corner of Nantucket and W. Campbell, Nancy decided it was time once again to make improvements. The gas station was torn down and she brought in CVS Pharmacy. Over the next few years she completed a renovation of the entire center, including a new landmark sign. Courtney joined the family business after completing college at SMU and has been diligently working to bring more upscale tenants to the center. Her efforts have paid off and now include the Chocolate Angel Café and Tea Room, everyone’s favorite tea room and caterer which has expanded, more than doubling their original space and Beaucoup, a fabulous home décor and gift shop. One of her most recent tenants is Neha’s China & Crystal Shop, a long-time Richardson retailer who moved from their 20+ year location to add to CRV’s growing group of upscale retailers. A new women’s clothing store, Get Noticed, moved from the Uptown area to CRV, bringing their specially designed “fun” clothing for women and their daughters with a message “Life’s too short to blend in.” Sherry Peters has a new store, Bradbury Lane, featuring Sacred Moments by Sherry Peters Photography and her photo studio. And finally Q Nails and Spa, a very special experience for women of all ages. Other longtime tenants at CRV include Cici’s Pizza, Heavenly Hair, which has been in business at the center for over 30 years and Doc’s Food Store, which is under new ownership and management and has been renovated inside. Completing the tenant list: As you consider where to shop or where to dine, we hope you’ll remember to support Richardson shopping venues, especially those like Campbell Road Village, whose owners are committed to making shopping and dining in Richardson a pleasing experience. Owner Nancy Underwood said, “Given my family’s long-term involvement with Richardson (my father did most of the early housing developments here as well), I am especially glad that we have kept this center and are continuing to draw A+ tenants to the city.” We’re glad, too, Nancy.Action News is a monthly publication of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce Communications Department.
