Celebrating 50 Years of RISD New Teachers
“For the dawn of each poet,
Each philosopher and king,
Begins with a teacher
And the wisdom they bring”
This poem by Kevin William Huff truly illustrates the value of our teachers. This is why the Richardson Chamber of Commerce and its Education Committee have chosen to honor incoming RISD teachers every fall for the last 50 years. This year’s New Teachers Luncheon will be held at the Renaissance Hotel (Richardson) from 11:30 to 1:00 on Thursday, August 14.
Over 500 new RISD teachers will be in attendance this year to hear the keynote speaker, Dr. Dennis Kratz. Dr. Kratz is the Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities at UTD. He will bring a challenge and a message of hope to today’s newest teachers. Dr. Kratz recognizes the changes that global interaction and technology have brought to the field of teaching and will share his views with the incoming class.
What can you do to help? The New Teachers Luncheon is seeking event sponsors, donations for teacher tote bags and door prize give-aways, as well as volunteers to help run the event. Please contact Ryan Abrey for further information. Together, we can show our teachers the appreciation and support they so richly deserve.
