In Memory of 1965 President of Board Jerry Owens

Jerry Owens became vice president of Owens Country Sausage, the business his father had begun in 1928 at the Owens Spring Creek Farm in Richardson in 1958 after his discharge from the Air Force. It was actually a return to the family business; his true "first job" was at age 5, when he was responsible for cutting strips of cloth for sausage sacks. In 1973 he became president, then chairman 14 years later. Under his leadership, Owens Country Sausage flourished, becoming a mainstay on breakfast tables in nine states. To customers across Texas and throughout the South and Southwest, Jerry Owens became a household name and his face and voice familiar fixtures on TV screens and radios. Jerry remained active in the business after it was purchased by Bob Evans Farms in 1987, accepting chairman emeritus status in 2003.

Jerry lent his considerable experience and wisdom to the governance of several business and civic organizations. He was an enthusiastic participant in the Young Presidents' Organization and especially enjoyed the camaraderie of the World Presidents' Organization. Jerry was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Richardson Independent School District, founding trustee of the Richardson Regional Medical Center, and, of course, President (now called Chairman) of the Board for the Richardson Chamber of Commerce.

We appreciate his graciousness and Richardson would not be what it is today without his blessed mark on our society. We have lost a great man, but are better to have experienced life with him than without him. Thank you to his family for allowing him to give his time to us, you are in our thoughts during your time of loss.
