W. Marvin Youngblood was born December 30, 1916 near Gilmer, Texas. He finished high school at Big Sandy and earned a degree in agriculture at East Texas State Teachers College at Commerce. He volunteered for the U.S. Air Force after Pearl Harbor. He attended OCS at Miami Beach and received a commission as 2nd Lieutenant. He served his country three and one-half years and reached the rank of Captain. He was recalled during the Korean War and served for another two years. Marvin taught veterans in the Program of On-The-Farm Training in Garland, Rockwall, Richardson, and Mesquite area before being recalled during the Korean War. He was Co-Owner of Richardson Concrete in Richardson and retired as a sales rep from Texas Industries in 1982. Marvin was very active in civic affairs in Richardson. He was a Bank Director at First National Bank of Richardson for several years. He served four years on the Richardson City Council, two years as Mayor Pro Tem. He was very active in the Richardson Chamber of Commerce where he served as President and Director. He received the Citizen of the Year Award in 1970. He is a century Member of the Richardson Chamber and received several Lifetime Memberships. Marvin was recognized by the Chamber and inducted in the Leadership Grove and had a tree planted in his honor in 1996. The tree is located in the Richardson Civic Center area. He was a charter member of the Richardson Host Lions Club. In 1972, Marvin was appointed by the City of Richardson as the first to serve on the Board of Directors for the North Texas Municipal Water District. He served on that Board of Directors for eighteen years. Marvin and his wife of sixty-five years, Vivian, lived in the Garland area for thirteen years and have lived in Richardson for forty-eight years. They are member of the First Baptist Church of Richardson. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Laura Youngblood of Gilmer, brothers Delmer, J.T., and Alton, sisters Tressie, Jewel, and Verlie. He is survived by his wife Vivian, sons and their wives Bill and Sandi Youngblood, Mike and Brenda Youngblood all of Plano, grandchildren Laura and Brian Fitzgerald of Little Elm, Jeremy and Grantsie Youngblood of Frisco, Meredith Youngblood and Stewart Youngblood of Plano. He is survived by one great-grandchild Kellen Fitzgerald of Little Elm and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2007 at Wildwood Chapel. Visitation was held on Sunday, December 16, 2007 at Restland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to American Cancer Society.
