November 2007 This issue home | Past issues | Chamber home State Representative Fred Hill honored at 25th Business and Industry Luncheon
State Representative Fred Hill was presented the Ernest Randall, Jr. Economic Development Leadership Award by the Richardson Chamber of Commerce at the 25th Annual Business and Industry Luncheon held on November 1st at the Richardson Hotel. Co-sponsored by the Chamber and the three Richardson-based Rotary Clubs, the annual luncheon honors existing businesses and celebrates the economic development achievements in the past year. Chamber Vice Chair Dave Anderson surprised Representative Hill with the presentation of the Economic Development Award for Hill’s “many contributions to the city of Richardson, his dedication and commitment to the well being of all citizens, and his long service and loyalty to Richardson and the state of Texas.” Representative Hill thanked community for their support saying it was an honor to represent Richardson in the Texas House of Representatives. A member of the Texas Legislature since 1989, Representative Hill served on numerous committees, most recently the House Committee on Local Government Ways and Means. Representative Hill, who has announced his retirement at the conclusion of his current term, authored the legislation granting four-year status to the University of Texas at Dallas. Representative Hill joins Ernest Randall, Raymond Noah, James Von Ehr, and Martha Ritter as receiving the award presented to the volunteer member who has provided distinguished service to building the economic base of Richardson. Former Richardson City Councilman Jim Shepherd was presented the Business Ethics Award collectively by the Richardson Rotary Clubs. The award recognizes an individual Rotarian who has demonstrated ethical leadership in an exemplary manner and by personal example furthers high ethical standards throughout the local Rotary district. Mayor Mitchell presented Chairman of the Board Richard Ramey with a proclamation declaring November 1st “Business and Industry Appreciation Day in Richardson.” The proclamation also acknowledged the City-Chamber economic development partnership for its efforts in developing the economic base of Richardson. The mayor also presented the annual “State of the City” on the exciting corporate relocation/expansion and retail development/redevelopment that has taken place in 2007. In his keynote remarks, Craig Hall of Hall Financial discussed five key issues impacting the economy and provided his views on what the future holds for the economy. He addressed the impact of the subprime mortgage crisis, financing of single family housing, the consumer credit crisis, the Federal Reserve monetary policy and the overall impact of the credit crunch on financial institutions. The good news, according to Hall, is that the North Texas economy is growing and should continue to outpace the rest of the country in economic growth. He mentioned the addition of 67,000 jobs in the near future and the current DFW unemployment rate of 4.3% as solid indicators of economic growth. Hall called his recent announcement to build a business park in Richardson the beginning of a good, long term relationship with the community. Hall Financial recently announced plans for construction of a business park with over a million square feet of space at the intersection of Custer and the Bush Turnpike. Hall said he anticipates construction beginning in 2008. Among the goals of the project is to build an all green LEED certified park. The Richardson Chamber of Commerce takes this opportunity to thank the Richardson Rotary Club, the Richardson East Rotary Club and the Richardson Central Rotary Club for their co-sponsorship and for their support of the Annual Business and Industry Appreciation Luncheon for the past 25 years.Action News is a monthly publication of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce Communications Department.
