Richardson Chamber Providing Office Space In STARTech Early Ventures Complex
RICHARDSON, Texas – September 25, 2007 – The Texas-Israel Chamber of Commerce, a nonprofit business organization created by the Texas Governor’s office and the Israel-America Chamber of Commerce to promote trade between the Lone Star State and the Middle Eastern nation, today announced plans to open its headquarters in the STARTech Early Ventures complex in Richardson, Texas.
Selection of the STARTech site, which was provided free-of-charge by the Richardson Chamber of Commerce, situates the organization in the heart of Telecom Corridor® business activity – and amongst a high concentration of technology-related companies. STARTech is a business incubator for technology-based enterprise in the Southwestern United States, primarily Texas.
“The formation of the Texas-Israel Chamber of Commerce is the result of widespread recognition of the enormous potential for Texas-Israel partnerships across many industries,” said Russell Levine, president and CEO of the Texas-Israel Chamber of Commerce. “The Texas-Israel Chamber of Commerce will play a critical role in forging ties between these two great sources of innovation.”
Due largely to the U.S.-Israeli Free Trade Area Agreement, trade between Israel and Texas has seen rapid growth in such industries as computer-related hardware and software, biomedical products, electronic data transmission, telecom, cable television and defense products. To continue such growth, the Texas-Israeli Chamber will provide member companies with informational tools, networking events, introductions to potential business partners, assistance with government relations and other benefits.
“On behalf of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce, we are pleased to have the opportunity to assist and help bring the Texas-Israel Chamber of Commerce to Richardson,” said Richard Ramey, chairman of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce and regional president of Legacy Texas Bank. “We look forward to working with Russell and the organization to foster business and technology relationships between Richardson and Israeli technology companies. We feel there is a tremendous amount of synergy to be had between the technology base in this area and that in Israel.”
“We are excited to welcome the Texas-Israel Chamber as a critical conduit to enhance the groundbreaking, global activity that takes place in the Telecom Corridor® every day,” said Steve Mitchell, Mayor of Richardson. “We take pride in housing the Texas-Israel Chamber in the STARTech facility, which serves as a launching pad for cutting-edge technology ventures while also attracting other critical investments and organizations, such as this internationally oriented Chamber, to our community. The Texas-Israel Chamber adds to our arsenal of resources for supporting further growth and development, and it strengthens Richardson’s position as a world leader in the high-tech sector.”
Today’s announcement comes on the heels of other significant activity in Richardson’s Telecom Corridor® area, including the recent announcement by MetroPCS of its planned headquarters relocation to the city, the planned relocation of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas’ headquarters, the relocation of Yahoo!’s regional headquarters, the redevelopment of several major retail centers along Belt Line Road and the commencement of new transit-oriented development projects such as Eastside, The Venue and Centennial Park. Also, Granite Properties recently announced plans to construct a second 150,000 square-foot office building at its Granite 190 Office Park in Richardson, and Hall Financial Group plans to develop a one-million square-foot office park at the southwest corner of the President George Bush Turnpike and Custer Road in Richardson.
