20th Annual Golf Tournament Made History

On September 21, 2007, a cool, breezy morning started out the day, but eventually turned to a 95 degree scorcher. This did not stop golfers from all over Richardson! They came from near and far to participate in the 20th Annual Richardson Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic at Sherrill Park Golf Course. Each person that played became a part of Chamber history.

At 7 am, golfers began showing up to the course to eat breakfast and get to the driving range before teeing off at 7:30. Everyone seemed in good spirits. While relaxing in the Pavilion and eating their breakfast, which was provided by Chick-Fil-A, the players were able to mingle and get that first cup of coffee before heading out to the holes. Soon the Pavilion was empty and golfers went to their respective holes and the first of many tee shots began.

As golfers made their way around the course, they were greeted by hole sponsors, some of who were sponsoring contest holes. Prizes were displayed to entice the players to try their hardest to win. A Hummer golf cart and a Chevrolet Equinox were prominently arranged at the two hole-in-ones. Unfortunately, no one claimed the prize this year.

Around 11:30 am, the other round of golfers began to show up and the first round of players was beginning to finish. Lunch was served by Casa Milagro in the Pavilion and gradually the morning players began to filter out. At 1 pm, the teams began teeing off at their respective holes. Laughter was abuzz in the air!

After the second round play was finished, each golfer was asked to make their way to The Richardson Hotel for dinner and drinks. Door prizes were handed out and the winners were announced.

The winners were:

  • Overall Gross Winners: Leo Eveleth, Chris Gage, Joe Stack and Terry Butterfield
  • 1st Net Winners: Calvin Jamison, Dave Englund and Dennis Senkowski
  • 2nd Net Winners: Kevin Noble, Russell Smeed and Barbara Gatti
  • 3rd Net Winners: John Lampton, Ron Hansen, John Solomon and Tom Hatfield
  • Last Place Finishers: Diane Wardrup, Lucy Weir, Pat Hodge and Carol Woods
  • Longest Drive: Ken Hodge
  • Longest Putt: Crystal Hogan
  • Straightest Drive: C.B. Miller
  • Closest to the Pin: Bill Weir
