Richardson's legislative priorities focus on economic development, tax and appraisal caps, higher education, public education, water, air quality, transportation, and parks and recreation. Economic Development:
Tax and Appraisal Caps: Revision to the Margins tax to increase revenue exemption for small businesses from $300,000 to $600,000.Water: The 2007 State Water Plan has been approved!! This includes a provision for key future reservoir sites in North Texas. Air Quality : The House and the Senate adopted Senate bill 12 to extend the Texas emissions reduction program. The state of Texas has established a new financial assistance program for qualified owners of vehicles that fail the emissions test. The assistance program is called the AirCheckTexas Repair & Replacement Assistance Program. It was created under the Low Income Vehicle Repair Assistance, Retrofit, and Accelerated Vehicle Retirement Program (LIRAP) provisions of the bill. Transportation There has been no progress on efforts to increase funding or to provide a solution for regional rail transit in North Texas. Parks and Recreation Legislation approved significant funding increases for parks throughout the state, which will benefit the Richardson community.
