May 2007 This issue home | Past issues | Chamber home Kicking off the Richardson Young Professionals As the Chamber began to grow and expand, representatives began noticing a major part of the organization was missing. Most events are catered to a broad range of people, but what really needed to be added was a group tailored specifically to young people in the area. That is why the Richardson Chamber of Commerce decided to start its Richardson Young Professionals organization. The RYP is an organization for young adults between the ages of 21 and 40 who live and/or work in Richardson. The kick-off event was April 26, 2007 at McCarty’s Tavern and Restaurant. The new event received rave reviews, as young professionals mingled amongst one another, there were several positive comments as to the addition of this chapter. Several of the attendees said it was a great way to meet potential contacts and have them all at the same venue. Others said it was a great way to allow Richardson’s young professionals to learn about others’ experiences in both their professional and personal lives. Kim Morris, Pappy's Pet Lodge owner and an RCC Board Member, explained how this group will be a vital part of the Richardson business community. She explained to our up-and-coming professionals that being a part of the Chamber of Commerce has given her the opportunity to build her business into the success that it is today. The RYP will hold a networking event every month as well as allow its members to attend a President’s Club reception with some of the major CEOs and Presidents from around the area. This organization will not just be a networking event. There will also be opportunities for young professionals to serve their community. Some potential community projects will be Habitat for Humanity, The Race for the Cure and volunteering at the animal shelter. This organization promises to be a premier chapter within the Richardson Chamber.
