March/April 2007 This issue home | Past issues | Chamber home Leadership Richardson Looks at the State of the Health Care in Richardson
Leadership Richardson Class XXII got a first hand look at the state of health care in Richardson – and discovered it is quite impressive! At their March session, attendees spent the day at Richardson Regional Medical Center (RRMC) and learned about the progress and plans regarding the extensive medical capabilities in our community. Ron Boring, CEO of RRMC, greeted the group and provided opening remarks at the center for “Richardson’s Anatomy,” the name for the day. The class learned about health and nutrition and ways to make better personal choices with diet and exercise. Also part of the program was a very eye opening presentation from Dr. Paul Bendel of Blue Cross Blue Shield who discussed the state of the insurance industry and how changing demographics are making a profound impact. A volunteer from Carter Bloodcare gave a presentation on one of our area’s busiest and most important agencies. She gave a compelling talk on the need for blood donors. Next up was a briefing on RRMC’s state of the art cancer treatment capabilities along with a tour and demonstration of an incredible laser that targets cancer cells to pinpoint accuracy. Closing the day, the Leadership Richardson class took basic medical wellness checks including blood pressure, body mass index and sleep apnea, toured the hospital and received instruction on how to help a choking victim. The March Health Care Session was planned by class participants Kim Kierce, Bill Knopick, Debra Marable and Ken Presley. Leadership Richardson is sponsored by the Richardson Chamber of Commerce and is a nine-month intensive training program to build Richardson’s next leaders.
