Templeton Enforces Community Involvement and Ramey Accepts Chamber’s Gavel

Gathered at the Renaissance Richardson Hotel, over 550 attendees witnessed Richard Ferrera named Richardson’s Citizen of the Year and the Chairman of the Board’s gavel change hands at the Richardson Chamber of Commerce’s 2007 Annual Banquet.

Many significant milestones in 2006 were reached by the Chamber including major economic development successes and advocacy of important public issues. These achievements included:

1. the newly announced Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas headquarters,
2. the groundbreaking for the Eastside mixed-use project,
3. the Chamber’s support in city and school bond programs, and
4. efforts which lead to the voter’s approval to sell beer and wine in the grocery and convenience stores.

Rich Templeton, President and CEO of Texas Instruments, highlighted the evening by delivering the keynote address. He spoke about the importance of leadership and community involvement in maintaining a strong business environment.

The evening’s program also featured the passing of the leadership gavel from 2006 Chairman of the Board Paul Voelker to the 2007 Chairman of the Board Richard Ramey. Upon receiving the gavel, Ramey expressed his goals and objectives for the future of the Chamber. Looking forward, his goals for the Chamber include:

1. Improving membership engagement within the Chamber;
2. continuing the development of strong, viable economic development strategies with the City of Richardson to help attract and retain jobs;
3. continue working on the five year strategic plan; and
4. encourage more members to get involved within the community.

Mr. Ramey and the representatives of the Chamber are looking forward to another successful year and wish the very best to the Richardson community in 2007 and beyond.
