RCC Leadership Charts Ambitious Course for 2007

Richard Ramey

Richard Ramey, Chairman of the RCC Board of Directors

When Richard Ramey, incoming chairman of the RCC board of directors, takes the gavel at the Feb. 27 annual banquet, he will lead the Chamber’s continued efforts to position itself as North Texas’ premier business and networking resource.  That vision for the RCC is just one of many exciting goals that the board has set for the coming year.

Ramey, a lifelong Texan and regional bank president for Legacy Texas Bank, has played a significant role in setting a 2007 RCC board agenda that emphasizes stewardship and advocacy.  He also hopes to raise the profile of an accomplished organization that, after 60 years of service to the region, has clearly established itself as a supporter of critical community initiatives and a driving force for economic, technological and quality-of-life innovations.

“It is a very high honor to serve the RCC in this capacity and to work with so many bright, energetic people,” Ramey said.  “The coming year offers an opportunity for us to maintain the quality services that the RCC has always provided local businesses and citizens, while also building on the substantial momentum generated by recent successes in securing new developments, creating new jobs and improving the quality of life available to Richardson residents and workers.”

A first step toward making a reality of Ramey’s vision involves recruitment.  Seeking to reduce membership attrition by almost a quarter and increase overall membership by 5-10%, the board intends to boost participation in official events and encourage regular attendees to bring guests.  In addition, the Chamber will found a group that caters to young professionals, a segment that has traditionally been underrepresented at Chamber functions.

Economic development, one of the hallmarks of the Chamber’s mission, also remains a focus for Ramey.  His team will reach out to the City of Richardson and join forces with key players in the business world to court high-impact projects.  The board’s ambitious economic development goals include the following:

  1. generate 1,500-2,000 new jobs

  2. develop at least 500,000 square feet of commercial real estate

  3. attract 2-3 new retail developments

  4. draw 3-5 national credit retailers or upscale restaurants

  5. revitalize one existing retail center within Richardson

The board will also focus on critical administrative tasks in 2007.  On the communications front, Chamber staff leaders plan to provide members with regular reports on the RCC’s performance and to serve as a source of timely, topical information on important business and community issues.  The Chamber’s annual report, which comes out at the end of the year, will continue to play a strong role in keeping constituents abreast of RCC developments.  The board will also concentrate on financial matters such as maintaining a balanced budget and generating sponsorship revenues.  If all goes according to plan, cash reserves will grow an additional 5%, freeing more funds to address future needs of the Chamber.

Finally, the RCC aims to execute a long-term strategic plan and form a related committee.  Such a plan will incorporate important partnerships such as those formed with the Richardson ISD and Plano ISD, two allies with whom the Chamber will work closely this year to cultivate future generations of leaders and innovators.

Incoming chairman Ramey and the rest of the RCC board of directors look forward to your continued support and valued feedback throughout the New Year and beyond!
