Two Richardson Developments Enter Final Round Of Annual Best Real Estate Deals Competition

EastsideAll of the construction around the Telecom Corridor® area has already generated substantial excitement among area citizens and businesses, as well as “buzz” in the media.  Now the activity may earn some additional, well-deserved recognition of the Richardson Chamber’s and Richardson Economic Development Partnership’s activities, as two recently initiated Richardson developments – the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas headquarters and the Eastside mixed-use project – have advanced to the final round of the Dallas Business Journal Best Real Estate Deals competition.

The newly announced Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas headquarters is a contender in the Best Office Deal, Best HQ or Corporate Campus Move and Best Deal Announced categories.  The proposed campus will enable BCBS to consolidate its 2,700-person Richardson-area workforce and create room for future growth up to a total of 5,000 employees.  Located on 34 acres just north of the Richardson Renaissance Hotel, and adjacent to an 8-acre park and nature preserve, the project involves one of the largest commercial real estate transactions completed in North Texas and also ranks as the largest transit-oriented office development ever undertaken in the DFW Metroplex.

Richardson’s Eastside project also earned finalist status in the Best Community Impact and Best New Retail/Hospitality or Mixed-Use Project categories of the awards competition.  Developers broke ground in October on the innovative project, which will offer numerous opportunities for working, living and playing in Richardson.  Project features range from a 10-story office tower to 450 luxury apartment homes and 90,000 square feet of retail space and an additional 35,000 SF of office space that will be constructed. A one-acre park equipped with an interactive fountain and amphitheater, within walking distance of two DART light rail stations, will also add a welcome dose of culture and sophistication to the complex.

Winners of the awards competition will be announced during a gala dinner on February 22.  For more information on the gala event and for tickets to support the Richardson Chamber and Richardson Economic Development Partnership in-person, visit www.bizjournals.com/dallas.

The RCC congratulates all of those involved in facilitating these development deals, and we wish both candidates good luck during the remainder of the contest!
