Survey Reveals Priority Issues For Members

As many members know, the Richardson Chamber recently surveyed its membership to identify the issues that members consider most important so the Chamber can focus on those issues and activities in 2007 and beyond.  Now that the survey results have processed, here are a few of the highlights:

  • Sixty percent of RCC members joined the Chamber to support community economic development and business advocacy.
  • Seventy-eight percent of respondents believe the most important functions of the Chamber are economic development and support for the existing businesses in Richardson.
  • The Chamber is considered most effective in its business advocacy function, serving as the recognized voice of business for the community.
  • Events that were attended by the largest number of members included the monthly Signature Luncheons, PM Connections, Business & Industry Appreciation Luncheon and Richardson Business Breakfasts.
  • Overall, the majority of respondents rated their experience with RCC staff as “excellent.”
  • Thirty-nine percent of members rated the value of being an RCC member as “high,” with another 45 percent rating the value of membership as “medium.”
  • Members also expressed a preference for receiving regular communications via e-mail, including monthly event calendars via e-mail.

Survey respondents also offered the following recommendations to increase the perceived value of RCC membership and the overall member experience:

  • Make announcements and provide notices on a more consistent basis.
  • Be more aware of small business issues and needs.
  • Offer a “how to network” session for members.
  • Have more Chamber staff present at RCC events.
  • Offer advertising opportunities via the RCC Web site.
  • Create a Chamber address to replace, or supplement, the www.telecomcorridor.com address.
  • Update the Web site more frequently with timely/topical information.

"The Chamber is sharing these survey results so members will know that their organization is mindful of member feedback, and that members' suggestions on how to improve the member experience are taken very seriously," said William C. Sproull, president and CEO of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce.  "Both volunteer leadership and staff will be working diligently in 2007 to serve the members’ needs and implement improvements so the Chamber can continue being an effective voice of business in the community."
