Community leaders, 20 past chairs of the RCC Board, past Citizens of the Year and Chamber officials participated in the Richardson Chamber of Commerce’s 60th anniversary celebration during the annual Business & Industry Appreciation Luncheon, held on Nov. 8 at the Richardson Hotel. More than 320 attended the celebration, which included a video tribute to the Chamber’s history and notable successes, featuring interviews with former Chamber board chairpersons, as well as Richardson Citizens of the Year. Richardson Mayor Gary Slagel also paid tribute to the Chamber and to the Richardson Economic Development Partnership’s 2006 successes, highlighting economic development activity and citywide initiatives that are cementing Richardson’s status as a premier live, work and play community for North Texas. At the conclusion of the event, attendees sang “Happy Birthday” to the Chamber as an enormous birthday cake, replete with fiery sparklers, was wheeled into the room. Every attendee was then presented a piece of the birthday cake, ensuring that those who contributed much to the Chamber’s successes over the preceding decades could receive a small, sweet token in appreciation of their efforts. “This event, themed ‘Celebrating the Past, Building for the Future,’ was a sweet way indeed to commemorate 60 years of the Chamber’s service as the progressive, active voice of the Richardson business community,” said Bill Sproull, president and CEO of the Chamber. “We are so pleased that we could share this celebration with the people who have been the lifeblood of this dynamic organization for so many years. Without the tremendous efforts of community leaders, countless volunteers and our valued staff, much of what we have accomplished would never have been possible.” Action News is a monthly publication of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce Communications Department.
