19th Annual RCC Golf Classic Set For Sept. 22

OwensGolfers mark your calendars for Sept. 22 when Owens Country Sausage presents the Richardson Chamber of Commerce's 19th Annual Golf Classic at Sherrill Park Golf Course, which is consistently rated a top-five municipal golf course and is a challenge for golfers of all skill levels.

A full field of golfers is expected to compete in this year’s tournament with the top three teams receiving awards. Players will also have the opportunity to compete for hole prizes, including a hole-in-one contest for a new car, goodie bags full of gifts and the awards banquet at the Richardson Hotel.

“The golf tournament is one of the most successful events the Chamber has each year,” said Stu Schlackman, a tri-chair of the tournament steering committee. “It is one of the biggest fund-raising events held by the Chamber, and draws a lot people that don't always attend monthly events. It is a great opportunity to make business contacts and network.”

For the third consecutive year, Owens Country Sausage will be the title sponsor.

“The Chamber is really pleased that Owens is returning as the title sponsor of the tournament. Their participation is really like a partnership and we appreciate their continued support of the Chamber,” Schlackman said.

Holmes-Murphy has signed on as an Augusta sponsor. Reliable Chevrolet, which gave away a new car in last year’s hole-in-one contest, will again be a hole-in-one contest sponsor. Nortel is also another major sponsor for the tournament.

Breakfast will be provided by Einstein’s Bagels and lunch will be provided by Casa Milagro. Innovative Sign Group will again be providing the sponsor signage on the course during the tournament.

There are still major sponsor packages available for this year's tournament. There are also smaller packages such as hole sponsors and goodie bag sponsors.

“The reason for the tournament’s success year-in and year-out is the continued support of our major sponsors. The committee is seeking sponsors, so if a company is interested in delivering their message to a targeted group of business people, it should consider a sponsorship,” said Diane Wardrup, a tri-chair of the tournament steering committee.

The tournament is also looking for volunteers who can spend  time at the course during the tournament. Volunteers are needed to assist with beverage carts, working tee boxes and assisting in the registration/check-in area.

For more information on sponsorships or to sign up a team for the tournament, visit the Chamber's Web site or contact Nicole Newkham.
