Revitalization Of 75 Corridor Topic Of March Event

Deputy City Manager To Explain Benefits Of Tax Increment Financing District

The Richardson Chamber of Commerce's Growth and Mobility Committee will have its second meeting of the year on Wednesday, March 15 at 11:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Select, 1655 N. Central Expressway in the Terrace Room.

The program will feature Deputy City Manager Dan Johnson presenting "Revitalization Of The 75 Corridor: How Would A Tax Increment Financing District Benefit Richardson?"

Johnson will cover the advantages of a "TIF"; how it works and how Richardson can utilize a "TIF" to encourage re-development along the corridor from Spring Valley to Campbell Road. With projects such as Tod Fobare's "Eastside" mixed use development on Campbell, the re-development of both the Richardson Heights Shopping Center on the southwest corner and the Chase Bank site on the northwest corner at Belt Line, and the potential for re-development along the Spring Valley DART rail line, Johnson will explain why there is a great opportunity to utilize a "TIF" district to fund public infrastructure components. In addition, he will briefly review the upcoming bond proposal that's on schedule for a May vote.

Last fall, the committee chairs and economic development staff who had oversight of the long-standing Transportation Committee, decided it was time to combine the Chamber's transportation interests with key economic development issues by forming a new committee called Growth and Mobility. This combined interest of "growth and mobility" reflects the changing emphasis from highway projects that have been completed to issues of Richardson's strategic location with both roadway and light rail access and the impact of its economic development strategies toward a new "live, work and play" urbanism. Programs conclude with economic development activity updates by the Chamber's Senior Vice President of Economic Development John Jacobs.

The tri-chairs of the Growth and Mobility Committee are Ernest Randall, Jr., Vantage Properties; Mike Romanowski, Halff and Associates; and Bill Harper, TXU Electric Delivery.
