January 2006 • Volume 3, Issue 1 This issue home | Past issues | Chamber home School District Seeks Volunteers For Texas Scholars Program The Richardson Independent School District is seeking volunteers from the business community to participate in its Texas Scholars Program, Feb. 28 - March 8. Since 1992, Texas Scholars has a record of success as an inexpensive community-based initiative through which volunteers and educators work together to motivate students to take a more purposeful approach in high school. RISD would like volunteers to make presentations to eighth graders which will encourage them to take rigorous coursework regardless of their plans beyond high school. Each presentation is made in a classroom setting to approximately 25 students and lasts about 40 minutes. The presentations are prepared by the Texas Business and Education Coalition. While some volunteers present to only one class, many present to two or three classes in a row which equates to about a half day volunteer commitment. General information about the program and the volunteer form may be found online. For more information, contact Eileen Friou at 469-593-0695.
