January 2006 • Volume 3, Issue 1 This issue home | Past issues | Chamber home 2005 A Good Year For Retail Development In Richardson With at least nine retail-related projects that have been announced, are under construction or recently completed in Richardson, residents and the business community are excited about the prospect of so many new shopping and dining options in the city. Five of the projects are new construction and at least four more are re-development or re-model projects. An additional five re-development projects are under consideration for 2006, said Sue Walker, vice president of economic development for the Richardson Economic Development Partnership, a joint effort of the City of Richardson and the Richardson Chamber of Commerce. The five new construction projects are: 1) In November developers announced plans for a urban-style retail, office, apartment project on the southeast corner of Campbell Road and Central Expressway. The Eastside project will include 90,000 square feet of retail and restaurants, 450 upscale apartments, and 34,000 square feet of new office space.
3) The Shire is under construction on the southwest corner of Jupiter and 190/Bush Turnpike. It includes The Silver Fox Steakhouse, which sits at the front of the development, two buildings with a total of 34,000 square feet of retail/services and 34,000 square feet of professional offices on the upper level. 4) Construction crews broke ground on the 190/Central Center in June. Located on the south side of 190/Bush Turnpike, just west of Alma Road, it will be a 40,000-square-foot retail center. 5) The Prosper Center is located on the southeast corner of Polk and Greenville Avenue and has 16,000 square feet of retail space.
1) II Creeks, located on the northwest corner of Lookout Drive and Custer Parkway, will include 60,000 square feet of remodeled retail/service space, 38 new upscale patio homes and 18 new high-end townhomes. 2) Last spring, Starbucks and Potbelly Sandwich Works opened on what was once the site of a gas station on the southwest corner of Campbell Road and Central Expressway. 3) Sitting on the southwest corner of Belt Line Road and Central Expressway is the Richardson Heights Shopping Center. It has a new owner who plans to remodel the 200,000+ square-foot center. 4) Finally, Simon Property Group, which owns the Richardson Square Mall on the southeast corner of Belt Line and Plano roads, is preparing plans for this retail site which will be announced in the first quarter of 2006. With all the new projects underway, 2006 will be a good year for continued expansions in retail and restaurant venues in Richardson. |
