REDP Reports Strong Industrial Relocation, Expansion Numbers For 2005

The Richardson Economic Development Partnership, a joint effort of the Chamber and the City of Richardson, is pleased to report 35 significant industrial relocations, expansions and start-ups in 2005 which will create or retain more than 1,600 jobs and occupy 767,672 square feet of commercial space.

The most impactful of the 35 projects was the expansion of Fossil, Inc., the internationally renowned watch and accessories maker, which acquired the 131,541-square-foot three-story office building and surrounding land at Fall Creek. Fossil is experiencing rapid growth and will initially occupy the Fall Creek site with 200 employees while keeping its existing operations on Greenville Ave. The Fall Creek site will accommodate nearly 1 million square feet of office space for the company's long-term future growth.

Richardson's telecom sector showed signs of renewed vigor with the relocation and expansions of Sonus Networks, InnerWireless, TekVizion, GTCI and Award Solutions. The area's semiconductor cluster, bolstered by anticipation of the completion of the new Texas Instruments 1,000-employee semiconductor manufacturing facility in 2006, grew with the location of LSA-cleanpart, which cleans and refurbishes parts for semiconductor-making equipment. The software sector gained with the addition of companies like Stone-Eagle Group, Sipera Systems, Adventsoft, Xactimed and Rainmaker Software and the expansion of istation. Richardson's life sciences sector saw the quadrupling of space for D4D Technologies, an innovative dental crown technology leader.

Non-technology companies also enjoyed attractive leasing opportunities in the city's inventory of more than 6 million square feet of office and office-tech space -- most notably, Plano-based Legacy Bank purchased the former RISD Math and Science Technology Magnet School building on Arapaho Road with plans for a branch and banking operations center on the first floor and office lease space on the second floor. Tyco relocated its 250-employee Simplex-Grinnell division from Lewisville to a leased facility at N. Glenville and E. Collins.

Overall in 2005, Richardson saw a continued positive momentum in its economy, more diversification in its mix of businesses and growth in companies creating exciting, new technologies.
