Leadership To Use Survey Results In 2006 Planning

Support for existing businesses, economic development and networking opportunities ranked among the top three most important functions of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce, according to a recent member survey. The three were among seven categories members were asked to rate. The other categories members were asked to rate were business advocacy, leadership development, education, transportation and similar initiatives, and quality of life enhancement.

When asked to rate the effectiveness of the Chamber, members ranked economic development, quality of life enhancement and leadership development as the top three choices. Education, transportation and similar initiatives placed a close fourth. Members said the most rewarding area of membership is promotion and networking, volunteer/committee work, and economic development.

Respondents said they valued their membership in the Chamber adding that most join the Chamber because of the promotion and networking opportunities afforded members and the opportunity to become more involved in the community.

PM Connections was the highest rated program in the Chamber. Other programs receiving high ratings included EarlyNet, Richardson Business Breakfast, First Thursday Headliners Luncheon and Prime Time Business Expo.

The majority of members want be kept informed through e-mail announcements, the e-mail calendar of events and the newsletter. Most respondents said they have used the Web site only a few times. When they do use it, they look at least once a month to find our information about upcoming events and utilize the online membership directory.

Of the members serving on a Chamber committee, most rate the experience as good. Time commitment was rated as the top reason people do not serve on a Chamber committee. Most members were familiar with the Richardson Business Directory, the official membership directory of the Chamber, and rated its effectiveness as a Chamber publication as good.

This marked the first time in several years that members were given the opportunity to voice opinions about the Chamber on a variety of topics, issues and activities. Each member was e-mailed the survey link where they could then log onto the Internet-based survey program.

The information is being used by the Executive Committee and Board to evaluate operations and activities of the Chamber. The information was also shared with the committee tri-chairs during their work retreat to plan the 2006 Program of Work. The Board will approve the 2006 program at its November meeting.
