September 2005 • Volume 2, Issue 9 This issue home | Past issues | Chamber home 18th Annual Golf Classic Tees Off Sept. 23 “All of the major sponsor opportunities have been filled, so the focus of the planning committee leading up to the tournament will be recruiting players, volunteers and door prizes,” said Diane Wardrup, tournament committee co-chair. “Morning and afternoon tee times are available, but going fast so players are encouraged to sign up soon.” The tournament committee is also in need of volunteers to work the day of the tournament. There are a variety of opportunities for volunteers to assist with everything from players check-in to monitoring the hole-in-one contests. And, the committee is also seeking companies who wish to donate a door prize or an item for the players' goodie bags. The door prizes are handed out at the tournament awards banquet provided by The Richardson Hotel on Friday evening. The players' goodie bags usually have small gifts like golf tees, towels, koozies, or similar items. Each registered player receives a goodie bag at check-in. “We have always had good response from the member companies to our request for door prizes and goodie bag items,” said Wardrup. “It is really a very efficient and effective way for companies to promote their goods and services.” A full field of 300 golfers is expected to play in the tournament. The tournament will use a Florida Scramble format with teams of four. The first, second and third place teams will be awarded prizes. The committee has designed the tournament so that every golfer will receive a prize or gift for playing. There will be a number of individual contests on the course including three hole-in-one contests. Reliable Chevrolet and North Central Ford will each give away a car for a hole-in-one at their respective holes. The Hartford Insurance Company will present a player with $10,000 in cash if a player makes a hole-in-one. Additionally, there will be a longest drive, straightest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin. Plus, companies sponsoring a hole will have a variety of promotional items to give away. Breakfast for the players is being provided by At Your Service Catering. Lunch will be provided by Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse. Drinks on the course are being provided by Dr Pepper. Signage on the course will be provided by Innovative Sign Group. Other major tournament sponsors include Holmes-Murphy and Nortel. The registration fee begins at $275 for an individual player and includes green fee, cart, lunch at the course and dinner at the awards banquet. For $800, Colonial sponsors receive green fees and carts for four players, corporate sponsor signs on a tee box, a listing on all tournament signs, lunch and the awards banquet for four. Information and registration for the tournament can be found on the Chamber's Web site or call the office at 972-792-2800. |
