Richardson Marks New School Year With Annual Luncheon For Teachers

Dr. Mike Moses was the keynote speaker at the RCC's 47th Annual New Teachers Luncheon held Aug. 4.

Seven hundred people, including 460 new teachers, attended the Chamber's Annual New Teachers Luncheon on Aug. 4. It was the 47th year the business community has celebrated public education by honoring teachers entering the Richardson Independent School District.

Keynote speaker Dr. Mike Moses, CEO of WestMark Systems, told the teachers, “You are entering a district with a tremendous legacy of excellence. This community, as evidenced by the support at this luncheon, understands that good schools and good business go together.” Dr. Moses previously served as the Texas Commissioner of Education and superintendent of the Dallas Independent School District.

The event also featured more than 200 door prizes, which were donated by local businesses and distributed to the teachers.

This year's doctorate degree sponsor was Texans Credit Union. Masters-level sponsors were the City of Richardson, Richardson Regional Medical Center, The Boeing Company and Texas Instruments. Richland College of the Dallas County Community College District and SBC were bachelors sponsors. Associate sponsors were AMLI at Breckinridge Point, Atmos Energy, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Texas, Citizens Supporting RISD Schools, Countrywide Home Loans, Ebby Halliday Richardson, Galatyn Park Corporation, Granite Properties, Leadership Richardson Alumni Association, Leo and Barbara Eveleth, Reliable Chevrolet, Rosewood Property Company, Texas Classroom Teachers Assocation, TXU, Realtors Supporting Richardson Schools and the University of Texas at Dallas. Art Roberts, Dave Peters and Don Wilson were diploma sponsors.

The New Teachers Luncheon is the longest-running event of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce and is the business community's opportunity to recognize the importance of education and show its support for Richardson ISD educators.
