Restaurant Depot Opens First Texas Store In Richardson

Restaurant Depot, a New York-based supplier to restaurants in 14 states, has chosen Richardson for the first store in the company's expansion to Texas.

Restaurant Depot has leased 75,000 square-feet of space on Glenville Drive in Richardson, and has fully staffed the wholesale warehouse operation, which will stock a full line of products – including perishables, canned food and dry goods, frozen foods, equipment and products for restaurants.

Richard Kirschner, chief operating officer, said: “We provide the smaller independent restaurants, pizzerias and other restaurant owners with everything they need, at very low prices, seven days a week. Our selection, savings and service help make the independent restaurateur competitive in a crowded marketplace.”

Restaurant Depot is the brand name for Jetro Cash & Carry's wholesale grocer and food service operation, which has been in business since 1995. The privately owned enterprise started in New York, expanded to other northeastern states in New England and Mid-Atlantic regions, then to California (where it now has more than 10 stores). More recently, it opened stores in the Mid-West and Southeast (Georgia, Florida). Richardson is the first store to open in Texas but other stores are planned for Texas.

“Richardson has a large and diverse base of small independent restaurants, with many ethnic, culinary choices and dining experiences,” said Mayor Gary Slagel. “We welcome a quality wholesale operation like Restaurant Depot which will support small, medium and large restaurant owners and operators throughout the area by providing excellent products and services at a very competitive cost.”

“This expanding B-to-B organization is a very nice addition to our retail and restaurant infrastructure in the city,” said Charles W. Eisemann, 2005 chair of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce. “We expect that there'll be a new local food-service industry catch-phrase: where restaurants go to shop is Restaurant Depot, in Richardson.”

The company has taken occupancy of the building and finished out the warehouse space to suit the stocking needs for its comprehensive range of products. The space includes an administrative office area as well as more than 20,000 square feet for fresh and frozen food.

Armando Cabral, Texas operations manager for Restaurant Depot, got the building and operation ready for business; Wes Williams is the Richardson branch manager and Andrea Law Cook, the assistant manager.

The search for its first warehouse operation in Texas led Restaurant Depot to 1300 N. Glenville Road in Richardson. Bill Bexley, who was with NAI Stoneleigh Huff Brous McDowell at the time, was the broker for the deal, representing Restaurant Depot; Michael Peinado of Lincoln Property Company was the leasing agent for the building owner.
