The Richardson Chamber of Commerce bestowed its 2004 Citizen of the Year award on energy industry executive and community volunteer Mike Spence at its 48th Annual Banquet on April 29. "Mike has made a tremendous impact behind the scenes," said Dave Peters, Richardson's 2003 Citizen of the Year. "He has an ability to bring a level head and a pragmatic business approach to challenges." A Dallas native, Spence is vice chairman of CDX L.L.C., a privately held producer of natural gas. After moving to Richardson in 1969, Spence wasted little time in getting involved. He served as chairman of the Richardson Parks and Recreation Commission, chairman of the Richardson YMCA, chairman of the Richardson Hospital Authority's board of trustees and on the Richardson Chamber of Commerce board of directors. He has also been active in the First United Methodist Church of Richardson, Richardson Noon Lions Club, Richardson Rotary Club and numerous regional organizations. Other Richardson Chamber of Commerce awards presented at the Annual Banquet were: Jerry Owens Corporate Leadership Award: Lennox International; Rookie of the Year: Marty Foster, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas; Small Business of the Year: Madden Companies of Dallas; Committee of the Year: Richardson Business Breakfast; Ambassador of the Year: Gene Spaulding, Guilin Group; Volunteer of the Year: Debbie Mrazek, The Sales Company; Top Sales Ambassador of the Year: Dave Peters, The Bell Group; and Lifetime Membership: Dave Peters, The Bell Group. |
