Small Business Roundtable Breakfast Gets New Name

One of the Chamber's long-standing programs geared exclusively to small business is getting a name change beginning in January. The Small Business Roundtable Breakfast will become the Richardson Business Breakfast – The Place Where Successful Businesses Meet. The change was approved as part of the 2005 Program of Work by the Executive Committee and Board of Directors in December.

The Richardson Business Breakfast (RBB) series will continue its tradition of focusing on key issues in the operation of a business. Featured speakers will provide the latest business trends and best practices that business owners and managers can take back to their offices and immediately implement.

"The steering committee is excited about the name change because the Richardson Business Breakfast more accurately reflects the purpose of our meetings and the value we bring to our members,” said committee tri-chair Maureen Moore. “The name change helps both members and non-members understand that our purpose is to provide owners and managers with solutions to help them effectively manage their business."

Business Basics, another Chamber program geared toward small businesses, is being combined with the RBB to more effectively educate business owners and managers. The format for Business Basics has been the classroom setting, but the content is very similar to what the RBB offers.

The Richardson Business Breakfast will continue to be held on the third Thursday of each month from 7:15-8:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Select, 1655 N. Central Expressway. At least two of the breakfasts will be one- to two-hour workshops on key topics. For example, this past year one of the workshops featured a panel discussion on the elements of outsourcing key business operations. The cost for the event will continue to be $15 for members and $25 for non-members.

The RBB Steering Committee has developed a set of quarterly program themes for the series in 2005. Each theme will focus on the key issues of operating a business. The themes are: 1st quarter – Money/Finance, 2nd quarter – Sales/Marketing, 3rd quarter – Cost Controls, and 4th quarter – Business Growth.

In addition to the presentations, the Richardson Business Breakfast provides members with an excellent opportunity to meet other business people who may have common interests or concerns, according to Moore.

“As a committee, we try to provide a monthly program that is useful to the local business community. A key element of our overall program is the great opportunity for networking with fellow members and business owners. Most of our regular patrons say networking is one of the reasons they come,” she said.

Ken Gilek with Bank of Texas will kick off the 2005 series on Jan. 20 with a financial overview and economic forecast for the coming year.

Members are encouraged to make plans to attend the Richardson Business Breakfast – Where Successful Businesses Meet. For more information, visit the Chamber's Web site.
